| Dear Sirdar Harpreet Singh Ji: Sat Sri Akal. Thank you for taking the time and trouble of scanning Nawab Kapur Singh, ICS's writing. I am quite familiar with his works. My antenna went up when you said, "Sikhism requires that once a person has reached the highest stage of evolution, which is Self-Realization, he or she should not remain absorbed in God". To me, this statement contradicts Sahib Guru Teg Bahadur Ji's Shabad, that I recently quoted to someone else on the Net in another connection, "Jo Nur dukh mein Dukh Nahee Manai.........Nanak Leen Bhayo Gobind Seon, Jeon Paani sung Paani". This Shabad tells us how to be an ideal person. And the culmunation of it all, is to be constantly immersed in Him. I agree with you that "ascetism" is not part of Sikh religion. But being immersed in HIM is NOT ascetism. We can do it while being a part of this world. I disagree with you, when you say, "If one is absorbed in it, then one can't function properly in the mundane world." I cannot explain the reasons for this disagreement. Every person has to find out for themselves. In the end, I respect your views. There are a couple of the things that I do not agree with because of my own limited knowledge and understanding of Guru Granth Sahib. We are His children, and we understand His Baani, the way He wants us to understand it. I apologize if I have wasted your time. Humbly Jasjit |
