Mr Sandhu:
You agree that 'Jats' are included in Other Backward Claste/Classes Category. You also feel, that 'Jat' Sikhs in Punjab are different from 'Jat' Sikhs outside Punjab. According to your reasoning, Jat Sikhs outside Punjab are lower-caste. This should mean all people who claim to be 'Jat-Sikhs' and live outside Punjab both in India and abroad are lower-castes according to your reasoning.

I'll let Jat-Sikhs not residing in Punjab deal on this issue with you.

You didn't read my previous post carefully on how castes are defined in India. This is what it says:

"...The term caste was used for Jats and also for Varnas......The castes, which were the elite of the Indian society, were classified as high castes. The other communities were classified as lower castes or lower classes. The lower classes were listed in three categories......The third category is called sometimes Other Backward Classes (OBC) or Backward Classes. This category includes in it castes who belong to "Sudra Varna" and also former "untouchables"........"

One last time: It is about time that Jats understand what it means to be Jat. Wake UP and do away with this nonsense unless you want to be identified as low-backward people against the wishes of our Gurus who have granted you total equality. It is your choice. If you continue to hold on to the Jat identity then don't argue with people when they call you backward caste. This is how it is defined unless you can change the definition. File a petition against Allahabad High Court's verdict. Personally, I've said all I wanted to say on this issue.

Regards

Jat-Sikhs stage dharna
Tribune

SRIGANGANAGAR, December 31, 2000 (FOC) ? Demanding their inclusion in the Other Backward Castes (OBC) category, hundreds of Jat-Sikhs staged a dharna on Thursday in front of the District Collector's office here. The protesters were agitating under the aegis of the Jat-Sikh Sangharsh Samiti. Mr Surinder Pal Singh of the samiti said the agitation would be intensified in case the state government did not accede to the demand. After granting OBC status to the Jat community in Rajasthan early this year, Jat-Sikhs, who constitute 25 to 30 per cent of the population in Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh districts, are also demanding reservation.
