Your list has served as a rough and ready 'cut and paste' resource to be used by ' proud Indians' whenever India is criticised. It is sad that this list seems to be the only thing that can be served up when a discussion turns to the India's multitude of problems.

The list is faulty as it tries to project back the artifical entity that is India today into the past. It may surprise many of the 'proud' Indians today but there was no such country as India in the past. There was no such concept of being 'Indian', 'Hindu' or 'Hindustani' then. These are modern concepts projected back in time. The inhabitants of these countries considered themselves to the citizens of their countries. Even today after 50 odd years of indoctrination into the concept of 'India' or blatantly untrue slogans as 'unity in diversity' or the jingoistic 'mera Bharat mahaan' ( my india is great ), 'Sare Jahan se acchha' ( My india is best in the world ), the people are more loyal to their village, their caste, their state than to India.

The India of today was split into kingdoms of various sizes inhabited by various races. 'India' as a country is the invention of foreigners such as Greeks, Muslims and the British. There was no such word as 'India' amongst the peoples that inhabited the area. The nearest equivalent was 'Aryavarta' the area around UP and parts of Bihar. The other areas especially Punjab were looked down upon by the people of Aryavarta. It was the Greeks who in their writings created the artifical country of India. This filtered through history so that even though no such country as India existed, the Europeans accepted 'India' as a country such as Spain or Italy. The British then used their forces to unite the disparate people of that area into their 'Indian' empire.

1. India never invaded another country in it's 10000 years.

Does your 10000 years of 'Indian' history terminate before 1971 ?. India invaded East Pakistan in 1971. As India has never been a country since 1947 how could it have invaded another country ?.

2. Sanskrit is not the mother of all European languages !. Sanskrit as well as old Persian, Latin and Greek are descended from a language called Proto-Indo European. Rather than being the mother of European languages it the cousin of languages such as Latin and Ancient Greek. Similarly your contention that the word Navigation is from Sanskrit is faulty. The word 'navy, 'navigation' comes from the Proto Indo-European word 'Nau' meaning boat. Hindus or 'proud' 'Indians' believe that Sanskrit is the langauge of the Gods. Doesn't say much for the Gods if they their language is descended from another language. Sanskrit is one of manu daughters of Proto Indo=European.

3. You have written that Indians make up certain percentages of American corporations. I wonder where you get your figures. I doubt these corporation keep accurate figures of the nationality of their workers. You need to look up the fact that 'Indians' make up 20 % of the world's population. So, if they make up these numbers of the american corporations then that should be no surprise. why not also check up on what the stats are for sweatshop workers who toil for these corporations ?. What percentage are 'Indian' ?. Half if not more no doubt. What percentage of the world's population living below the poverty line is 'Indian' ?. More than half. Does that dent your pride in being an 'Indian' ?

4. You use faulty logic of acknowledging that inventions of the past by projecting the artificial entity that is 'India'. Surely your point about navigation being used on the Indus gives Pakistan the enviable position of being able to claim to have invented navigation. How about Pakistan also claiming to be the place of one of the first universities ?. Taxila is now in Pakistan. I'm sure you will protest to Pakistan being projected into the past but you see nothing wrong in 'India' being projected back.

5. One thing that amazes me is that so much invention and knowledge was founded in the area outside the 'cow belt' of Aryavarta and that too in areas which the Aryas considered to be barbarian and uncouth. I think providence has had the last laugh by making the 'Aryavarta' of UP and Bihar the poorest and more corrupt regions of India !
