| sat sri akal the reason why other castes or clans now claim that they are jatt is that jatts are the dominant group in panjab. in sikh society they dominate the political and religious arenas as well as being nearly seventy per cent of sikhs in general. also jatt culture is closely linked to panjabi culture e.g. bhangra music and as such is very popular not just among sikhs but also other indian communities. there has also been a clash between sikhism and jatt traditions and culture. the jatts are a very ancient people with a long history and traditions equally old. they have always been among the rulers and dominant castes and as such some of them have found it hard to superimpose sikhism (which is casteless) over their own jatt values. however in hinduism they were relegated to low caste status and when sikhism appeared they were attracted to it because it preached equality. |
