Founder of Sikh Pioneers Web site passes away (obituary).
Tejinder Singh Sibia (Ted), born in Punjab, India, died peacefully at his Sacramento home on March 6th 2008 after a short illness. He was 70. Ted migrated to USA in 1960, earned an M.S. in horticulture from Kansas State and another M.S. in library science from Emporia State University. He served U.C. Davis as head of the Research Library Unit for Biology & Agriculture at the Shield Library. He was among the first to develop a site devoted to the Komagata Maru incident, Ghadar movement and early South Asian immigrants. The site, now called www.sikhpioneers.com , is an invaluable resource on the history of early South Asian immigrants to USA and Canada.
He was very social and will be greatly missed. He was an active member of the IVACC, Koh-e-Nur Club, and Museum Committee of Punjabi American Heritage Society, Yuba City. He was a Patron of the Sikh Temple Sacramento, where he served as librarian and started the senior's club.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Manjeet K. Sibia, dear daughter (Kiran Tej Sibia), 3 siblings (Inderjit Kaur & Gurminder Kaur and Perupkar Singh Sibia) and their families. The funeral service at North Sacramento Funeral Home, 725 El Camino Ave., Sacramento, CA 95815 (Ph. 916-922-9668) on Sunday, March 9, 9:30-11:00 A.M. will be followed the same day by a final prayer for the departed soul at the Sikh Temple Sacramento, 2301 Evergreen Ave., West Sacramento, CA 95691 at 2-4 P.M.
