WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh.

Sat Sri Akaal.

Hope all are in High Spirits. It takes considerable amount of effort to look after the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. If we keep SSGS Ji at home we have to look after Guru Ji like they do at the Gurudwara. Keeping SGGS Ji at home and not looking after it will bring great misfortune to ones self. Heres my dilema. I have a copy of the SGGS Ji in english translation in four volumes. Is it considered and should it be treated as the actual SGGS Ji ? Should Prakaash and Sukhasan be done ? Advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,

Paramjit Singh Khalsa.

Sat Siri Akaal. There is nothing urgent in your question. Your fears are unfounded. Obviously you respect Siri Guru. If you did not and left it lying around uncovered, then you might pay the karma of it but your INTENTION is pure, even if you don't know what to do. So please quit worrying.

Home gurdwaras do not have to be EXACTLY like our temple gurdwaras. Many people don't have the room space or quiet to do so. There are many ways to deal with it. What is important is a sacred corner or space or shelf. Decorate it from the heart; I once put a tiny canopy in the corner of my closet and stored my SGGS there, and put the lid of a box up on the side, so the Guru was 'separate' from the other stuff on the shelf. I was renting the place and could not build something so I made do. Then, I only put Guru in prakash to read/take a hukum, and back in sukhasan otherwise. It depends on your space. If you cannot keep a sacred place/space/corner for Guru in prakash (because of your household or space or whatever), then keep the volumes all in sukhasan and only in prakash when you read.

For a corner or shelf, sometimes you can buy those standing/folding screens that you can stand in front of Guru, to mark off Guru's space. Find some pretty cloth and make sure each of the volumes gets a cover (book cover, so to speak). YOu might have to find someone to help you make them. Then keep the volumes on a shelf with another ramallah or appropriate cover over all the volumes. Get a low table for prakaash that has small pillows (craft stores have them) and then use the table for prakash. Some people get these large carved 'bookstands' that fold open and closed, and use those for prakash to read and then put the volume back for sukhasan. It is your choice to have Guru in prakash all the time. Or leave one volume out and close it for sukhasan, but then keep it covered on the table. WOrk it out. Remember to keep the space sacred and clean and graceful, and know that your intention and devotion will cover you.
Guru ang sang,
