Rulda Singh, National Secretary of RSS said here Monday that they have due respect for the Akal Takht and that the RSS would always bow its head in respect for the Akal Takht. In a press release issued here yesterday, Rulda Singh and Charanjiv Singh, former president of RSS, said that they had not initiated any campaign against the Akal Takht for withdrawing the controversial ‘sandesh’ barring Sikhs from dealing with the RSS and its underling Rashtriya Sikh Sangat Meanwhile, sources have said that the ‘sandesh’ which was issued by the Akal Takht in 2004 has been one of the main topics of discussion in the last two meetings of the RSS. The meetings were held in Amritsar and Jhandewala by the Punjab unit of the RSS. In the final meeting, the RSS decided to move forward its withdrawal demand to the BJP. Sources further added that the RSS asked its political wing, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), to sever ties with the Shiromani Akal Dal (Parkash Singh) if it did not persuade the Akal Takht to rescind the ‘sandesh.’ Additionally, they said a former SAD minister was working as a liaison between the Takht Jathedar, SAD and the RSS in an effort to get the ‘sandesh’ withdrawn. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandak Committee (SGPC) chief last week set aside all rumors that Jathedar Joginder Singh was being considered for a possible removal by Parkash Singh. A senior Akali leader dismissed the BJP pullout threat as a ploy to get the directive revoked. "The BJP has been asked to question the Akali Dal on this issue, and exert pressure on them to get the letter revoked," a party insider said, ''Moreover, the party in charge of Punjab, Arun Jaitely, already met Parkash Singh recently and they can handle the issue well." Due to the upcoming elections, this is a suitable moment for the RSS to leverage the BJP and the Parkash Singh Dal, political analysts suggest.
