Vaahi-Guroo Jee Ka Khalsa
Vaahi-Guroo Jee Kee Fateh!

In the previous posting the question posed was why Guru Jee's didn't mention 'Waheguru' openly in gurbanee, preferring to use the word 'Naam', Raam, Har and many other wondeful names. The conclusion in that post was that it was a secret and only given to the initiated disciples. The conclusion said 'Waheguru' was Naam.

An alternative answer could be that Guru jee's used many wonderful names of God because they were all valid. And the term 'naam' rather than being a secret way of covering up the Word Waheguru, was actually a generic term, so to a Hindu it would mean 'Raam' to a Muslim it would mean 'Allah', to a Sikh it would mean 'Waheguru', to a Jew, Christian, Jain and so on it would mean something unique to them.

For example, the Bhagats have had their verses recorded in Guru Granth Sahib Jee, they all talk about Naam, but they do not mean Waheguru as that was introduced by Guru Nanak Dev jee. But Guru Arjun Dev jee has included their verses and hence approved of the Naam they meditated upon. By including their shabads, or verses, Guru Arjun Dev jee is saying that he recognises the fact that their is more than one way to merge into the supreme ocean of bliss, God.

Baba Nand Singh jee was a very spiritual person who lived earlier this century. He told Hindus too meditate on Ram, Muslims to meditate on Allah and Sikhs to meditate on Waheguru. The point being that Naam Japping was VERY VERY important, the naam used could be different but the results would be the same.

Alot of the modern religions do not emphasise Naam Simraan, but if you look closely at the founder and his teachings Naam Simran is mentioned and you can find sects of the religion still practising it. What our Guru Jee's did was tell the followers of the religion, whether they were Muslims or Hindus etc, to stop following the religion for money, status, habit etc and start doing it with love, heart and soul, get back to basics and do Naam Simran.

That is why Sikhism is a Universal Religion, because Guru Granth Sahib jee talks about spiritual progress, 5 enemies, good qualities, truth, naam simran and so on. These principles can be applied to any faith and the true essence of that faith will be realised.

It is also true that a person who does Naam simran, but has not taken amrit, will still have their efforts rewarded. Their meditation will lead them to taking amrit and BEYOND......

Their is alot of common ground in most religions, as a Sikh one should strive to be a proper Khalsa. Having understood how to climb the mountain to God, the Sikh will be able to show people of other faiths how to follow their own path, rather than on a mission to convert everyone, or feeling that Guru Nanak Dev jee is the ONLY way.

Personally, I prefer this line of thought, rather than the previous mail.

Bhul chuk Maaf Karna jee,
