Amritsar, June 11: Representatives of various Sikh organizations will assemble in Lahore from Friday to attend a two-day meeting to finalise the draft of the proposed International Guru Nanak Dev University (IGNDU) in Pakistan.

Last year, on the occasion of 400th birth anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth guru of the Sikhs, Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had announced setting up of a university in memory of Baba Guru Nanak at Nankana Sahib in Pakistan.

Besides the representatives of various Sikh bodies from around the world, senior officials of Pakistan's Evacuee Trust Property Board (PETPB) and officials of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan would also take part in the Friday meeting.

The PETPB has invited proposal for the drafts of the university from the Sikh bodies of America, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and India.

Speaking to ANI, Parmjit Singh Sarna, chief of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) said that they would prepare the proposal draft for IGNDU with the help of former Vice Chancellors like Dr. G.S. Randhawa, Dr. S. P. Singh and eminent Sikh scholars such as Dr. Darshan Singh and Dr. Gurdarshan Singh.

Hailing the efforts of Pakistan government to set up a university on the name of Guru Nanak at Nankana Sahib, president of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) Jathedar Avtar Singh Makkar said that SGPC would provide all its logistic help to the proposed university.

While providing the details of their proposed draft for the university, Manmohan Singh Khalsa from UK informed that they would request Pakistan government to provide at least 2500 acre land for setting up the university.

He informed that Choudhary Anoop Singh of World Muslim Sikh Federation would also take part in the meeting, and added that the university would be a unique institution with top class architecture and curriculum, as it would have all the facilities of international standards.

He further said that IGNDU would also have a research centre for all religion, including extensive research facilities on Sikh religion and culture.

Speaking from USA, Dr. Pritpal Singh, convener of American Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (AGPC) said that AGPC would help in providing international renowned architects and scholar to built the IGNDU, as per the international standards. (ANI)
