I came across the following short note. Ref: The Traders of Punjab and Asian Trade (17th to early 19th centuries), Dr (Mrs) Kiran Datar, Delhi University. This article was published in the journal, Punjab: Past and Present.

*******************************************

".....A bronze vessel possibly of the 16th century with a Gurmukhi inscription has been found in Orsk (Southern Urals). This bears the name Bhola Singh, evidently a Sikh trading in this area.[1] Gurmukhi inscriptions at a fire temple in Baku, captial of Russian Azerbaijan (situated on the northern shore of Caspian sea) have been discovered. A date mentioned in one of the inscriptions is 1714 AD. The inscription starts with the Japuji Sahib and mentions the names of the gurus and their disciples, who have constructed a cell, within the precints of the temple."[2]
