| Dear veerji Preet Mohan S Ahluwalia Sat Sri Akal I have no doubt that the philosopher Bertrand Russell was a very brilliant man and a great thinker. But I have my doubts that he is the one who could have said what you had quoted as he was a very outspoken atheist. I believe that you might be mixing him up with Toynbee. A few quotes from Bertrand Russell's book WHY I AM NOT A CHRISTIAN might convince you. The whole of the first chapter is spent on refuting the existence of God. "Therefore I take it that when I tell you why I am not a Christian I have to tell you two different things; first why I do not believe in God and in immortality?Religion is based, I think, primarily upon fear?My own view on religion is that of Lucretius. I regard it as a disease born of fear?It is not only intellectually but also morally that religion is pernicious?I see no reason, therefore, to believe in any sort of God, however vague and however attenuate. " (WHY I AM NOT A CHRISTIAN pp.5, 22, 24, 26, 33.). Regards Jass Singh |
