| Just a few points. She isn't a British Princess. According to the letters patent of 1917 the title of Prince/Princess and style of Royal Highness is limited to the children and grandchildren of the monarch. Gabriella being the great-grandchild of a monarch in the male line from a younger son (she is the great-granddaughter of King George V through his youngest surviving son, George Duke of Kent). Her father is the youngest son of a youngest son, and thus she is only entitled to the style of lady. She is also closely related to the royal houses of Denmark, Greece, and Russia via her father's mother, the late Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, Duchess of Kent. Her mother (sometimes known as "Princess Pushy" for her want of free things) is a Roman Catholic and her father an Anglican. He lost his place in the succession to the throne upon his marriage to her because the Act of Settlement forbids those in line to the British throne to marry Catholics. However,the children (Gabriella and her brother Frederick) were raised Anglicans, and thus are still in the line of succession. Princess Michael recently made international headlines because she allegedly told a table ofnoisy prominent blacks at a New York society restaurant to "go back to the colonies". She, however, claims she made no such comment, and that her words were being twisted. She's often maligned in the British press because of her foreign (German) background, and because of her father's past (he was a German Baron who served in Hitler's SS). Tavleen Singh is a well known Indian columnist. She writes excellent political commmentary! They are, actually, a very well off family, and Ella should be used to the smog of New Delhi by now, as she's spent quite a bit of time in India. Anyway, I hope that they have a Sikh wedding! |
