This is in no way and answer to your question but merely an opportunity to discuss Guru ji. There is a quote from Guru Teg Bahadur, "He who does not bless his food, eats poison." One can say this might be an argument for pressing one's hands together and chanting briefly before eating. Also, you might contend that such remembrance should continue throughout meal preparation and consumption. Then again, remembrance of the Name is a Sikh's duty every waking moment of his or her life.
