Preet Mohan Singh ji,
Please don't put words in my mouth - tell me from where are you drawing those conclusions that substantiate your associated statements with "This is your line of thought not our's." ? BTW, who is the "We" and "ours" that you always seem to be referring to? Did someone appoint you to be the representative for all the Sikh community?

You say that "a [Sikh] community that considers mankind equal does not believe in putting labels.." - then what does the label of accusing somebody of being a "patit" (apostate), mean? Keep in mind that the acts that accompany the use of this word, tell us that the Sikh community really doesn't treat its own members equally, let alone the rest of mankind. In case you're not familiar with the phenomenon, I could provide you with more details of this. Some examples also include the labels of keshadari and non-keshadari, Amrit-vala and non-amritvala, and tankhiya.

The reference to an "internal and external identity" and the lack thereof, is really a misnomer for schizophrenia. How many people really know who they are? Do you think that someone could know him/herself better by adopting externally imposed "identities"? Have you ever thought what does this do a person's self-identity? Each of us are born as unique human beings, with a unique identity. Why and what is the need to replace the identity that nature and God's indwelling spirit had already provided? Was there something defective with what nature and God had already designed for each human being? According to your criteria, would Guru Nanak have been a complete Sikh? I mean he didn't have the external identity and nor did the eight other gurus that came after him, had it either.

Yes, I quite agree with you that the turban sure does help Sikh * MEN * to stand out. This form of recognition is at par with the behaviour of Clinton and the way the Sikh violence in gurdwaras, are making him and Sikh men stand out too! Be a little more introspective and ask yourself what this does to the self-esteem of our youngsters. Try considering exactly how much self-hatred is being generated by the deplorable acts being committed inside the gurdwaras and how our current and future generations of men will be affected.

Regards,
Pritam Singh
