>>BEING A SIKH DOES NOT ENTAIL SIMPLY GOING ALONG WITH A SERIES OF BEHAVIORAL PRESCRIPTIONS. IT MEANS BEING FULLY ENGAGED IN SUBTLE AWARENESS, PURPOSE AND CONSCIOUSNESS WITHIN THE ACTIONS. WHEN DISCIPLESHIP BECOMES MERELY A SOCIAL CONVENTION IT IS PARADOXICALLY, NO LONGER TRUE DISCIPLESHIP (SIKHI).<< Krishna Singh Khalsa ji, I could not help feeling that the statement above extracted from your reponse to Pritam Singh ji needed to be given due attention. I can certainly not speak for Pritam Singh himself but I feel quite strongly that the essence of his objections and complains about the Punjabi Sikh community can to some extent be summed up in the statement above. However, we humans beign human, all Sikhs, whether of Indian or of other origin need to equally beware this rut of "social discipleship". The key to escape this potentially dangerous rut is of course - AWARENESS, that is to know, why we do what we do and for what purpose. =============== Browsing through a newsletter of another one of the many spiritual organistions that have sprung up in the world to answer the call of human spirituality, in this case the Brahma Kumaris Organisation, I came across this very useful quote - >>IT IS USEFUL TO KNOW WHERE SELF-ESTEEM ENDS AND EGO BEGINS<< Humbly yours ssks. |
