| Dear Sundeep: I don't want to comment on how "bright" your ancestors were. I'll let you figure that one yourself. I'm getting the impression that you deny the existence of Jatts before 700AD. In other words if Jatts are Scythicans then Scythians should have come to the norther plains (i.e. Pakistan/Afghanistan/Persia) around the time you identify Jatts i.e. 700AD. Your reasoning is that if Jatts(Scythians) were there before this time then Greek and other invaders would have been resisted by "these" Jatts. For your information, Herodotus a fifth century B.C. historian gave a detailed description of Scythians in Central Asia and the Caucasus region. Also, Xenophon, about 300-400 B.C., described the Scythians beyond the Tigris and Euphrates whom he and his men encountered on their march to the north of Persia. According to Carl Ploetz, Scythians invaded India and ruled along the Ganges and the Indus before native princes overthrew them in 57AD. So, Scythians had control over some territory before they got pushed out. I'm NOT discussing the presence of Scythians in India. I'm asking you for an explanation on why Jatts "didn't get mentioned" till 11th century AD if they are the same as Scythians. Scythians were there long before the first reference to Jatts. You feel the same way when you say that Jatts would have resisted invasions in the centuries earlier had they been present. I don't know when Manusmriti was written. The Rigveda already mentions caste differentiation. And it was written way before 800AD. I'm not sure how can a "group" of people (Rajputs) be the same as another group of people (Jats) if one group is ruling over the other. If they were the same then why the distinction between Rajput and a Jatt. The distinction only CONFIRMS the presence of caste differentiation which did not treat Jatts and Rajputs alike. The original question stands: If jatts are Scythians, then why was there no mention of Jatts. At any rate your reasoning is not the same as Mahal whom you quoted previously. In his book it is mentioned that Scythians had reached Punjab by 1st Century BC. Regards |
