| Sangat Alert! While on a business trip yesterday to North Texas, @ around 9:30p.m, Saturday evening, I was listening to "Radio Salam Nameste". The Pakistani Punjabi host of the program that evening Himself uttered the following RACIST BIGOTED anti-Sikh remarks in Direct violation of FCC rules governing over the air broadcasts utilizing the Public Airwaves: "What do you do when a Sardar-Ji throws a grenade at you - you pull the pin and throw it back at the Sardar-Ji!" Translation the word Sardar-Ji is in this context used disparagingly in a way equivalent to the "N-Word". Respectfully we say Afro-American or Blacks, similarly we say Sikh or Khalsa, but to degrade, people say the "N-Word", or in this case "Sardar-Ji". Translation part 2: The Joke means, a Sikh is a stupid fellow, this s why he will toss a grenade with the pin still in, and you who are not a Sikh you are smarter then a Sikh, that's why you will pull the pin, and the grenade will explode - killing the Sardar-Ji! 1:) But the key issue is that the Host violated FCC rules by himself uttering these racist remarks, if he had used the N word riots would happen, if he made a Mohammad joke same thing. 2:) The Host of Radio Salam Namaste, then solicited all callers to call in with "Sardar-Ji Jokes". So the rest of the evening I had to endure hearing callers making Racist Sardar-Ji jokes, a thin veil for Anti-Sikh Bigotry. Now that I have alerted Sangat to this matter, any one else who was in the Texas area yesterday, and heard this, please voice your disgust and lets all file FCC complaints. Howard Stern got fined millions for vulgar words. Don Imus, got fired for making a joke about black girls playing basketball, in a very similar way as the "Sardar-Ji" Joke. In USA minorities are only respected if they act strongly. Sikhs are made fun of because Sikhs let things slide. But A Sikh is to uphold justice, even when it is for Sikhi itself! LETS ALL BE CLEAR: The words Don Imus uttered "... Nappy headed .." are what got him fired, these words are used in exact similar context as Salam nameste host's "Sardar-Ji" utterances. USA is a land of "Rule of Law": All people not just Sikhs should act on this FCC violation. Our Tax dollars can not be used to sponsor Bigotry and hate against us! I took out precious time to post this alert, surely others in Sangat can spare time to act by calling the FCC, I hear they have a 800#, fax FCC, Email FCC, use all methods. Also write to your Senator ect and voice your complaint. Please relay this post to other sites. If we all sleep and not act, Sikhs will continue to be made fun off like Backs used to be. Only when they stood up, did things change, same thing for Jews. |
