| Indy, I think you miss the point I am making. The word religion is what I question, not mat! Religion is a defined word in ENGLISH. The ENGLISH word religion can not be to attributed to Sikhism. Sikhism is unique and more encompassing than religion. In your context, I would argue that if you are saying mat is religion, then it could be argued that is incorrect. Mat is different from the WORD religion as defined in the ENGLISH OXFORD DICTIONARY. It is the English word used that is being questioned. Let me give you an example, let us say that we live in "the plains" (flat lands) and have never seen a mountain. We then see a mountain range with some flat sections. Now should the mountain range still be called "the plains" just because the other tribes living in "the plains" call their land "the plains"? Similiar to the mountain range being different to the plains, Sikhhism is a bigger concept and religion is an inadequate word. I hope this makes sense to you. |
