Press Release

World Sikh Council - America Region Protests KPS Gill's Visit to the US
and Urges Sikhs and other Minorities to do the Same

June 17, 2002- San Jose, California.

World Sikh Council - America Region vehemently condemns American Foreign
Policy Council's decision to invite KPS GIll to Washington to attend a
meeting. KPS Gill is the former Punjab Police Chief and one of the
biggest violators of human rights in India. He is responsible for
killing thousands of innocent Sikhs and minorities in false police
encounters. Hundreds of Punjab police officers, who worked under Mr. KPS
Gill, are now facing trials for violating human rights in Punjab.

The Tribune India wrote on August 12, 2001,

"At present there are about 800 officials under suspension facing trial
and inquiries. ... These officers were handpicked by two former DGP's Mr
J. F. Robeiro and KPS Gill."

BBC writes (8 May, 2002),

"He and his team have been accused of committing excesses in the name of
stamping out terrorism.
Then in the mid-1990s, a senior female civil servant from Punjab, Rupan
Deol Bajaj, sued him successfully for sexual harassment.
Mr Gill had to pay a hefty fine and was sentenced to three years in
prison which was later reduced to probation."

KPS Gill is known to be the killer of Sikhs and minorities in India.
Many human rights organizations in India have held him directly
responsible for killing thousands of young Sikhs in police custody and
in false police encounters. By inviting him to the US, the American
Foreign Policy Council has rubbed salt on the wounds of Sikhs, women and
minorities. KPS Gill is a killer and should be brought to justice. In
stead of inviting him to the US for foreign policy making meetings, he
should be tried in the International court for war against humanity
along the lines of president former Yugoslav President Slobodan
Milosevic. Mr KPS Gill will do to the Muslims and other minorities in
Gujarat what he has done to the Sikhs in Punjab and elsewhere.

We urge all American Foreign Policy Council and the US government to
deport KPS Gill immediately and not to pay attention to him. We also
urge all human rights organizations and Sikh organizations to oppose KPS
Gill's visit vehemently in the United States and send a strong message
to him and the Indian government that we do not need this killer cop in
the US.
