| <<<<<You gave an example from Benati Chaupai: Mahadeo ko kehat sada siva Nirankar ka cheenat nahi bhiv ( Translation: Those who call mahadeo (Mahadeo is Hindu deity shiva) as God know nothing about Formless Supreme Lord.) The correct translation, in my view, is this: Sada Siva is saying to Mahadeo - Nirankar is not being watched.>>>>>>> Response Our arguement started when you tried to say that Siva and mahadeo(Hindu God shiva) are same .I know that Hindus consider trinity of Brahma,Vishnu and Mahesh or Mahadeo or Shiva as Gods.Per Hindu mythology Brahma is creator of universe,Vishnu is preserver and Mahadeo is destroyer. It is Hindu view and not Sikh view.I explained to you giving examples from Gurbani how God and his creation are viewed in Sikhism. An article was refered to impress upon that SIVA in gurbani is God himself and not mahadeo.Mahadeo is under God's command and is not equal to God per sikh concept. A very simple example was given that God does not descend to this world in fleshy form and is above birth and death. On the other hand Hindus consider Mahadeo as their eternal God and hence their god is finite. He took birth and died. Now you say that siva is saying to mahadeo that nirankar is not being watched.Per your belief Mahadeo is God and he is being told by another God Siva that a third God is not being watched.I don't understand what you are saying here???If Mahadeo is God why he should be told something by another God??? But Sikh view of God is made clear in the second line of above quote from Chau pai sahib when Guru ji refers to Supreme God as formless one.(Nirankar=Without form).Guru has not refered to Mahadeo, a Hindu God, as supreme formless God in the same way as they haven't refered to Brahma ,Vishnu ,Ram Chander ,Krishna as mere dust at the feet of supreme lord.Gurbani is very clear on this. One has to see the context. Interpretation will differ per beliefs. The problem comes when you try to blend two different thought processes into one. That is not possible as fundamentals differ. Let me end with a quote of Punjabi poet Prof.Puran singh "In words of Puran Singh, "If the Sikh, as he was born, had ever been afforded opportunities of spiritual isolation from the rest of the world, to develop his powers of self-realisation, and his instincts of art and agriculture and colonisation, his would have been by now, one of the best societies of divinely inspired labourers, of saint-soldiers living by the sweat of their brow". "But Brahminism was there to engulf it from within. His political temper, the result of his complete mental liberation and his passionate love of liberty pitched him against the Mughals from the time of its birth. Out of the jaws of death, if the Khalsa has still come out, there is much hope for it yet. All is not yet lost". From:www.maboli.com/seva/sikh_review/1997/march_97/sajjeMetaphys.htm |
