Thanks for your cooperation. **************************************************************************** <<Singh and Kaur were suppose to UNIFY sikhs. . There is no need to re-invent the wheel. Are you implying that the guru didn’t know what he was doing when he gave women the name Kaur (meaning princess) and men the name Singh (meaning lion). It is obvious just from the meanings alone that the he made a distinction between the sexes. If he wanted to give men and women the same name he would havedone so himself!. I don’t recall reading anything in sikh history that the surname khalsa would be endowed on the panth with the coming of Harbajan Singh Yogi.>> Did Guru Gobind simply call us the Singhs and Kaurs, or did he call us the Khalsa? As such I call myself Khalsa. He gave men the name Singh, which I have, he didn't say it was our required last name. But, if my last name suddenly created division, I could simply use it as my middle name. <<why all the “gurdwaras” run by HS Yogi are called ashrams. The gurus given names werent good enough for “his” sikhs? The word gurdwara wasn’t good enough either ?>> Yogi Bhajan does not run any Gurdwaras, the communities he founded were and are sometimes reffered to as ashrams, but the Gurdwaras themselves have never been called ashrams. I am niether a western convert nor one of "his" Sikhs. True Sikhs only belong to the Guru. I do, however, owe the Siri Singh Sahib a debt of gratitude, for teaching my parents about Sikh Dharma and the Khalsa Panth. <<Becoming khalsa is something that is ulitimately achieved only with the grace of Waheguru.>> I totally agree, and that is why I was born to this destiny. I could have been born to any Sikh family, but it was the grace of WaheGuru that I was born to a family who follows the Khalsa Panth. I have thought about this many times, If Khalsa was not my birthright, I wouldn't have been born and raised Khalsa. <<Please it is “sikhs’ and “non-sikhs” who use khalsa in their names that have dragged the word thru the mud.>> Just like 'Killer Khalsa Singh', there is a wrestler named 'Tiger Ali Singh'. We cannot change that people have and probably will drag all the names Khalsa, Singh, and Kaur through the mud. We can only be sure that the Khalsa Panth will not be dragged through the mud. To summarize, If Guru Gobind Singh was known as Gobind Singh Guru would it matter? Would he no longer be a member of the Khalsa because he is the Guru and is not using Singh as his last name? I did not choose the Khalsa, the Khalsa chose me. If it is wrong to use the name Khalsa, then my birth (through the grace of WaheGuru) must also be wrong. The Khalsa Panth will always be known as Khalsa, just as I have and always will be known as Khalsa. -Khalsa, Prabhu Singh |
