Statement from British Organization of Sikh Students

VahegurujiKaKhalsaVahegurujikifateh

Dear Dr Kharak Singh,

I write to you on behalf of the British Organisation of Sikh Students (BOSS) regarding the current issue of the implementation of Sikh women's desire to partake in seva at Darbar Sahib and all Gurdvara where access to women has been denied. We regret that we are unable to send representation to the meeting at this moment in time, instead we send a humble plea on behalf of the Sikh students of the UK to openly allow equal rights in seva. As you are aware Sikhi has the greatest record of equality in all aspects, hence it seems unjust and contrary to the Sikh belief to deny any form of seva to women if they desire to undertake it. This great blessing from our Gurus of equality is something we should announce to the world and is a statement we use when encouraging youth to realise that sikhi is the answer for the modern age, unfortunately if one of our most holiest shrines does not practice this fundamental concept then it can only reflect poorly on us. We are only human and as such are given the gurantee of making mistakes! Guru ji has blessed us with the ability to take action against errors, let us join and right any wrongs that may have occurred. If however there is a genuine reason as to why equality in seva has not been previously allowed then please as part of the committee provide information on this.

Yours thankfully,

Satinder Singh
