In a significant development, the new Nanakshahi calendar was released by Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar, Akal Takht, at the Golden Temple. The first copy of the calendar was presented to Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, former General Secretary of the SGPC. Mr Calcutta hoped that Takht Patna Sahib and Takht Hazoor Sahib would also implement the Nanakshahi calendar in the near future. Mr Calcutta said the 11-member committee which had finalised the calendar was not yet disbanded and hence the SGPC was open to any relevant amendment in the calendar.
