Day 2

Arriving in Los Angeles the night before, Dr. Nijher began his day early in the morning taping a 4-5 minute interview with KNBC television. Anchorman David Cruz empathized with the Sikh community and the backlash they have endured as a result of 9-11. The interview was played in its entirety during the 11 am news hour, allowing many in Los Angeles to hear this incredible story of courage, determination and valor. The interview was re-cut to a shorter version and played back during the evening news.

Later that day, in an appearance before the Marina Del Rey-Venice Rotary Club, the doctor received a standing ovation from the Rotarians. His remarks and his urging of racial and religious tolerance and acceptance were extremely well received.

The doctor and the Southern California Sikh community also were on Fox News KTTV which covered the event along with La Opinion, the leading Spanish language daily in Southern California. The doctor also did an interview with KFWB radio.

The evening ended beautifully with Dr. Nijher having dinner with members of the Southern California Sikh community. The Southern California Sikh community has graciously hosted Dr. Nijher’s visit and all the day’s activities. After dinner Dr. Nijher took a flight to San Jose from where he will visit the Central California cities of Sacramento, Stockton and Fresno. The tour will later continue to Houston, New York, Washington DC, and Boston.

Dr. Nijher’s tour provides an ideal opportunity for the Sikh image and values to be clearly articulated to mainstream America. Newsweek and CBS News have recognized Dr. Nijher as a true American hero. He symbolizes the Sikh Americans’ true sprit of courage under fire and putting one’s life on the line to save others.
