Day 8

The eight and final day of Dr. Nijher’ tour - September 11, 2002. On this one-year anniversary of 9/11, Dr. Nijher started the day before 7 am by driving from his hotel to tape a live television interview with Fox News in Washington DC. His wife, who had joined him the previous evening for dinner by flying from New York to D.C., accompanied him for this interview. Still early in the morning and immediately after the interview, Dr. Nijher and his wife caught a flight from DC to Boston.

Arriving in Boston, the doctor and his wife were driven immediately to the prestigious Park Plaza Hotel to address the downtown Boston Rotary Club. There was a standing ovation following his moving and emotional address.

Following the Rotary Club presentation, Dr Nijher did an interview with the Associated Press. He next met with the Boston area Sikh Community and then headed to Denham to do a live 4 minute interview on Fox News during the station's six o'clock news.

Following the live interview on Fox News, Dr Nijher headed to Milford MA to speak at an evening inter-faith community vigil. The doctor captured the emotions of the crowd and received a lengthy ovation. The event was attended by most of the area’s townspeople, including the leading elected officials. This vigil was carried by New England Cable TV and covered by various other local media representatives.

At 9 pm the Doctor had dinner with the Boston area Sikh community where he discussed the need for Sikhs to get more involved in their communities and make their presence known.

Dr. Nijher concluded his tour by driving for 4 hours from Boston back to New York with his wife where he arrived at 2 am.

He headed out in the morning for his 6 am shift at the Hospital - back to his regular life as a Surgical Resident in a Manhattan hospital a few blocks from ground zero.
