Description:
Heard of SikhiToTheMAX? If so, then you'll have an idea of what Sikher is going to become. Sikher is the new Gurbani application of the 21st Century being developed by the online community through open source. It shall have all the latest features including a very Advanced Search Engine, Slideshow Function to work with PowerPoint and OpenOffice, Project Function allows you to save a set order for hymns to appear in a Slideshow, Akand Paath Function to allows continuous reading of Gurbani at a set pace. Additionally, all hymns and lines can be viewed as lists and documents. We've also added a favourites box to store your favourite shabads in. Sikher is perfect for everyone! It has advanced features for developers and those more interested in Gurbani research, and a simple XP-like interface for the average user.
Sikher shall work with Windows, Linux and Mac and have translations in English, German, French, Spanish and Russian. Sikher shall have multiple transliterations and translations. It shall contain Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Amrit Kirtan, Bhai Gurdaas Vaaran, 5 Daily Banis and Ardaas. In time we hope to add Dasam Granth Ji and Bhai Nand Lal Ji Bani when it is completed.

Goals:
Long Term
¬ To give the world access to the knowledge contained in Gurbani so that they may lead healthier, happier and holier lives
¬ To increase community involvement in Sikher through active recruitment and promotion
¬ To continue to build into Sikher more advanced features, additional languages and Gurbani dictionaries
Short Term
¬ To finish Sikher 1.0 to the agreed specification with all its fine features in Java and Swing
¬ To translate the Gurbani from English into Russian, German, Spanish and French.
¬ To archive this Gurbani, Translation and Transliteration data in a suitable database format (XML or another portable solution)
Needs:
¬ Anyone can join, with the only requirement being that you have some free time and can committ to the project
¬ Developers in Java are required
¬ We need people who can traslate English into French, Spanish, German and Russian
¬ If you can support us financially then this shall help speed our marketing and coding efforts along immensely |
