| I have not heard or seen him doing kirtan but really wanted to see what exactly makes him so popular among Sikhs. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to see or hear him when he was in CA couple of weeks ago. But, I personally know few Sikhs who turned their lives around and Sant Ranjit Singh was big influence behind it. One is our family friend, who is a completely different person now than what he was before. When I saw him recently after a long time he had full grown beard, wearing turban, completely changed!. He used to be clean shaven, come home, drink a little type but very nice guy. So, I asked him about this sudden change and his response was, "Bas hun dakhla ley liya skoole, vekho graduate hunne aa ke nahin (Yeah, took admission in school now (sikhi) let's see if I can graduate or not"! But my wife summed it up best when she said that you can see on his face that he has peace in his heart now! They all actually said that yes he use Dharna but atleast it's easier for us to understand and it completely makes sense whereas some other Kirtaniyas and parcharaks go too deep into Gurbani that the meaning is lost on us! This to me was interesting and actually I could see their point. Gurbani's message is very simple but profound and Guru sahib used common man's language to help them understand devine word. Even on this discussion forum, we see people trying to come up with all sorts of meanings from Gurbani but sometimes the simplest message makes the most sense! We need parcharaks who can connect with masses and explain gurbani in simple terms, more deep meanings will follow afterwards as they get attached to gurbani. |
