| Ankhee Ji, Have you checked out on Sikhnet the news that United Sikhs trying to help out in Burma? http://www.sikhnet.com/seva/united-sikhs-attends-briefing-myanmar-government-ban-ki-moon In Burma till the Military Junta has to accept relief. And I don't think they allow foreigners to enter and do relied work. One more thing .... it is righteous to stand up against oppression. And History shows Sikhs have never dithered from doing so. Despite another 'partition' in their lives the 1984 riot victims have arisen from ashes and though they may fight for their rights , they are not begging for their livelihoods. Some may have been forced to beg outside Gurudwaras but now I feel they too have stopped doing so because they've got ways of earning their livelihoods! I feel it is difficult for Sikhs to ask for alms. I recall when Sikh refugees came form Afghanistan to Delhi, many came with nothing. They did not take to begging and did odd jobs and some even put up food stalls serving stuff that Kabul Sikhs liked ( Dhai Bhallas, Finger Chips, Kababs etc). Today Delhi's Gaffar Market is in their control. And many of them migrated to UK. I recall sometime back Muslims had a dominant presence in Southall Shops. Today Kabul Sikhs have taken over the market and wherever you go you get to hear Rehras Sahib in the evening. Hope you appreciate this fightback by Lions? Brave-hearts are lionhearted too. |
