First private Sikh University now a reality 04/11/2008 http://www.kalgidharsociety.org/news/EU.asp
Baba Iqbal Singh Ji In this university Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj's vision of blending modern scientific education & Braham Vidya will be realized. The graduates of ETERNAL University will be a special breed of professionals who will believe in universal Brotherhood of Mankind, compassion for the under privileged & concept of selfless service. These graduates will be messengers of peace to bring about permanent peace in the world. Last year, the State of Himachal Pradesh passed "The Himachal Pradesh Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, inviting Private Sector sponsors to establish institutions of Higher Learning. The Kalgidhar Trust (the parent of ETERNAL University) in response of this proposed to establish ETERNAL University with eleven colleges in Phase I, including Colleges of Engineering, Health Sciences, Arts & Sciences, Teachers Training, Business Administration, Public Health, Naturopathy & Alternative Medicine, Pharmaceutical Science, Divine Music & Spiritualism, Medicine, and Distance Learning under ETERNAL University. It will offer more than 125 academic programs; and a significant number of these will focus on improving the lot of women, farmers, and the minorities. Additionally, more than thirty courses would be offered on Internet under College of Distance Learning. ETERNAL University will be a world class Multi Faculty facility located in the rural and backward area of the State of Himachal Pradesh (Baru Sahib, District Sirmour), where there are no such higher education facilities. Academic collaborative arrangements are being worked out with a number of foreign Universities including Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, University of Virginia, Wayne State University in the fields of Engineering, Teacher Training, Nursing & other para medical specialties, Public Health, and Business Administration towards international acceptance of the student turn out and ingraining into the academic processes the best practices and state of the art innovations in the processes. In fact, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has already been signed for AKAL College of Engineering & Technology with Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. and such arrangements for other specialties are in the pipeline. Students enrolled in the academic programs will be exposed to a diverse and wide range of technical and non-technical education and training, which will enable them to develop intellectual and training skills in their respective fields. The university will also simultaneously provide career counseling and guidance by keeping the students informed about the potential job opportunities and will help them in making prudent decisions regarding their future careers. It will maintain and promote close linkage and active contact with potential employers, both in National and Multi-national Corporations, while involving their executives and faculties, to interact with the students through lectures, seminar, symposia and class room participation. ETERNAL University will also strive to prepare its students to take up the leadership positions in education, science, engineering, medicine, health care, politics and community development. Twenty first century expertise and technology would be introduced at ETERNAL University through visiting faculty from abroad. Major courses in different faculties would be developed in collaboration with these resource persons. No effort would be spared towards building academic standards of ETERNAL University as good as (if not better than) institutions of high repute around the world. Exchange of students and mutual transfer of course credits mechanism would also be established between ETERNAL University and its partners abroad. This will encourage children of several million Non- Resident Indians (NRIs) settled abroad to come back and get high quality education at highly competitive costs. This will generate (in a way) a reverse migration of the student benefiting not only the individual, but also the country. Note: Comments do not represent the views of SikhNet.
