LOS ANGELES, CA - MAY 16, 2006 - FAMLI, Inc. sponsor of the 14th Annual Malcolm X Festival will honor the accomplishments of KRISHNA KAUR with the Lifetime Achievement Award on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lucy Florence Coffee Shop at 3351 W. 43rd Street in the Leimert Park area of Los Angeles, California.

Krishna Kaur is a phenomenal woman with a spiritual vision. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Krishna has been teaching the art of Kundalini Yoga and Self Awareness to the Greater Los Angeles community since 1970. She is a natural teacher who has shared the art and science of yoga with therapists, entertainers, executives, students, at-risk youth, teachers, seniors, pregnant mothers, inmates and drug rehabilitation clients. She is the founder of Your Own Greatness Affirmed (Y.O.G.A. Inc.), Inc., which is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to establishing Yoga based programs in under-served communities around the world. YOGA For Youth is a Y.O.G.A., Inc. program that, while serving all youth, is focused primarily on "at risk" and incarcerated youth. Through the YOGA For Youth program, consisting of Yoga exercises, breathing, meditation, and singing, the young people are given practical tools to enrich their lives in the present and future. She is also the founder of the International Association of Black Yoga Teachers, which offers classes throughout the community, takes the YOGA for Youth program into the detention camps, and sponsors a Festival of Yoga and Music in Cuba. To learn more about Krishna Kaur's work and YOGA for Youth look for her table at The Malcolm X Festival.

FAMLI, INC. is a non-profit agency working to educate and enhance the life chances of urban, inner-city youth and young adults through the promotion of positive cultural, educational and artistic programs, activities and projects. Their projects include the See A Man, Be A Man and Princess to Queen mentors programs. Some of the projects currently operate year-round at Audubon Middle School in Los Angeles, California and service approximately 1000 at-risk youths on an annual basis.

The Malcolm X Festival will feature workshops, a film festival, musical and spoken word performances as well as youth programming to further its theme, "Mentoring To Save a Generation." Because Malcolm knew the importance of education and our youth, the festival is also featuring a Youth Peace Summit. Malcolm lives in each of us so let's come together to celebrate not only the day of his birth but the passion and love he had for each of us until the day he gave his life.

The Malcolm X Festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday May 20-21 from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. at Audubon Middle School, 4120 11th Avenue, Los Angeles, California.
