The Internet began in 1969. This was the height of the awakening of Aquarian consciousness. The world wide network we call the Internet was born from the paranoia of the cold war. It is rather ironic that it was intended to be a military communications network designed to withstand the devastation of a nuclear attack. Its distributed nature meant that if any piece of the network was knocked out, the packets of information would simply bypass that part of the network and automatically choose an alternate route to their intended destination. It is this very robustness and ubiquity that has made the Internet one of the most transforming forces of our time.
The Aquarian electronic network is a physical manifestation of the group consciousness of the planet. Today’s internet harkens back to the heady days of our nation’s founding, with its passionate political debates on the great issues of the day. The rich diversity of opinions available on internet sites gives us great perspective – far beyond that which we can get from local newspapers, magazines and television. Taken as a whole, the internet is like Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, which flamed the desire for freedom and independence in the American colonists. It is a realm of liberty, and free sharing of information. Not just in the US, but all over the world, young people especially look to their favorite internet sites to get the facts and share them with each other. The Gutenberg Press of the 21st century is the Internet and email. The Siri Singh Sahib said that “Information is the new wealth.” With our ever expanding awareness, we’re able to maintain the social, religious and political freedoms that we already have, and open these freedoms to people all over the world.
This is not a political-philosophical game of conflicting ideologies but a process of human evolution where increasing awareness overcomes ignorance. Hardly a day goes by when we don’t quote the Siri Singh Sahib that “Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness.” The World Wide Web gives us the freedom that allows us to access infinite information - information which changes our lives and which, as teachers, we use to enlighten those around us.
