Procedures for Siri Guru Granth Sahib's Paath (Sahej Paath-Saptaahak-Paat-Sadaa Sampooran Paath)

Procedures for Siri Guru Granth Sahib’s Paath

A recitation of the entire Siri Guru Granth Sahib from beginning to end may be done at any time attached or not to a particular event. This may be accomplished in the following ways:

SAHEJ PAATH or SADHARAN PAATH

Sahej Paath or Sadharan Paath means easy or simple recitation. It is a Paath started and ended any time, with as many or as few people participating as desired. It is a good time to practice pronunciation and study meanings. Someone can even listen and correct the reader in the middle of the recitation. Anyone can perform their own Sahej Paath.

SAPTAAHAK PAATH

Saptaahak Paath is done in seven days. Everything in this Paath is done like an Akhand Paath, but only 204 pages are read continuously each day.

SADAA SAMPOORAN PAATH

Sadaa Sampooran Paath means "ever complete reading." It includes the following Banis which are read all at once, rather than at various times of the day. The Paath includes:

Japji Sahib (Siri Guru Granth Sahib, page 1)
Shabad Hazaray (Siri Guru Granth, page 96, 660, 721, 722, 730, 795)
Jaap Sahib (First bani in Dasam Granth)
Swaiya (From Akal Ustat in Dasam Granth)
Anand Sahib (Siri Guru Granth Sahib, page 917)
Rehiras Sahib (Siri Guru Granth Sahib, page 467)
Kirtan Sohila (Siri Guru Granth Sahib, page 12)
Paintees Akhree (in expanded Sundar Gudka)
Naseehat Naamaa (in expanded Sundar Gudka)
Basant Kee Var (Siri Guru Granth Sahib, page 1193)
Bentee Chaupae (from Pakhyaan Charitra in
Dasam Granth)
