Hi,

My brother masturbates and I can hear him, but my parents room is far away.He said he wants to [deleted by moderator]. i know this is wrong in our religion so should I tell my mom and dad. Also I have a dog and I trim his hair in the summer is this ok to do even though he belongs to a sikh family This may sound funny but it has become a real problem.
Thank You,
A true sikh Gopi

Sat Siri Akaal. What your brother does in the bathroom is his business, not yours or your parents. I am not condoning it one way or the other. Think of the alternative: if he is not strong enough to resist the urge to masturbate, he may exercise his sex drive with a person instead. Frankly, the sex drive in people varies, and in youth, it is up and down and very hard to control and bring into balance (because the body is still adjusting to the hormonal shifts of the teen years). So Leave it alone, please. Have compassion. Teach him to chant the naam for some balance to the situation, but only if he is willing to practice.

As for your dog, if the particular breed of dog normally has hair trimmed for some kind of dog-related reason (comfort, eyesight, whatever) then it is OK to trim the hair. Hair on a dog should not be trimmed anyway unless the dog experts recommend it for some reason specific to the dog. For some dogs, trimming or cutting hair can mess up the dog's physical heating/cooling system, believe it or not. It is not about being Sikh. Your dog is part of a Sikh family, so that is its blessing. It does not need to keep rehit too!
