I would like to make a comment on the Singh who mentioned we should not be worried with "trivial issues" like a "proper metal kara" and "marrying out of religion". And our aim is to open Dasam Duar and become Brahmgyani. I agree that this is our aim but Bhai Sahib do not fool yourself into thinking that the opening of the Dasam Duar is common.

Only Gursikhs who follow the Guru's EVERY WORD will get to the highest stage of spirituality and open the Dasam Duar. Such people, there are only handful in the world. These people do not pick and choose what they want to follow but they attach themselves to the Gurus feet and they listen to every word. When Guru Kian Sakhian says "SARBLOH da kara" they wear Sarbloh kara. When Guru Jis own Hukam from Nanded says marry a GURSIKH only they do it. I remember a Rehatnama where it says, giving your childs hand in marriage to a non-Gursikh, is like mixing nectar with poison!

If you disobey the Gurus commands your Dasam Duar will not open. Enlightenment comes only to the select few who act according to Gurmat (Gurus thinking) rather than Manmat (minds thinking). Apologies if i come across as harsh but do not think we can discard which parts the Gurus told us, which doesnt suit us. We are the Gurus disciples and we listen to him.

Please do not be offended and all the best with your Sikhi. By doing lots of Paath the truth becomes immediately clear.

Sat Siri Akaal. You are correct, to a point.
Dasam Duar opens when the person who practices the Naam and keeps his/her discipline is ready. For some this takes lifetimes of meditation. For others, not so much. Siri Guru Granth Sahib is nothing but an exposition of the experience of the opened dasam duar. Notice that about 95% of the shabds in SGGS discuss the benefits or results of chanting the Naam. It is sincere, regular, and deep meditation on the Naam that opens dasam duar. The rest of what Sikhs do is to support the meditative mind and to keep our external environments graceful and pure. So, you are putting the cart before the horse. If I ONLY marry a Gursikh and ONLY wear iron kara and ONLY wear 5 Ks, this does not open the 10th gate. These are important to our identity and part of our discipline, but SGGS is clear that the ONE who meditates on the Naam gets the benefits of the Naam, and it doesn't say Sikh it says 'person'. Baba Nanak was very clear to all he met that birth, gender, caste, whatever do not make a GurSikh or guarantee liberation. Practice of the Naam alone does this. Dasam duar opened is part of being liberated.
Guru ang sang,
