Vand Chakna: Giving 1/10th of one's earnings to Guru. This practice was given to us by 10th Guru Gobind Singh. Does it mean you aren't Sikh if you don't tithe? No. Does the Gursikh attempt to tithe sincerely and regularly? Yes.

All the Gurus and many other spiritual paths as well recognize that ALL things come from God and all things go to God. Our blessings and riches and good life are gifts of God. When we remember him in our minds and in our practical daily lives by giving of our earnings, we are affirming His care and love for us.
Tithing is worth searching on the internet, to really understand the thinking behind it. It is like any investment: it takes money(earnings) to make money (returns). Catherine Ponder wrote books on the "DYnamic Laws of Prosperity" (from a Judeo-Christian perspective but the idea is universal). Our prosperity as individuals and as Sikhs is guaranteed through the tithe. The tithe is given to organizations dedicated to spiritual teaching, not just some charity. So if you are going to tithe, consider seriously the recipient of your tithe, but once you let the money go, let it go. No matter how your tithe is used, your sincere intent is what God honors, not how it is spent.
