Summary of Question:What Is It To Be A Sikh
Category:General Sikhism

What is it to be a true or a real Sikh? My parents named me Jimmy Bhogal and I do not have Singh attached to my name. Does that make me inferior than other Sikh brothers? I keep long hair and try to do all our practices, but I am not happy of satisfied with it. I follow all the practices just for the sake of doing it and as a respect to my religion. So please tell me what is it to be a true Sikh

Sat Nam,
You are a Sikh only if you think you are and nobody can take that away from you.
If it bothers you that your name is not resembling other Sikhs one solution can be to request a spiritual name on this site http://www.3ho.org/spiritual-names/
They look at your numerology form the time you were born and determine what your spiritual destiny is, then pick a name that fits that destiny.
Otherwise, don't waste your time feeling inferior, there is nothing wrong with you. It is our love for the Guruji that makes us who we are and nothing or nobody can change that.
