Hello,

I have read a few posts in this forum concerning guns. I wrote this message because I felt you guys had a bias opinion about guns.I felt that the moderator that was answering thought that guns are bad and you shouldn't even be 1000 miles near one. I for one was very offended due to the fact that my family is the proud owners of many guns. Yes it is bad for a gangster to have a gun,but it is needed for one who needs it for protection. For example my uncle farms walnuts and when ever he goes to his orchard he carries a rifle with him, why, because there are coyotes and all types of dogs roaming free. So please be don't write anymore one-sided answers anymore.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the previous discussion about guns on this site. What I am most concerned about is gun CONTROL! Not the prohbition of guns entirely. After all, as Sikhs we respect weapons, but too many tragedies have occurred because assault weapons have gotten into the hands of criminals, and lack of consciousness and care has brought tragedy when children "play" with loaded guns. I don't see anything wrong with your owning and carrying a rifle for self-defense, when and if you have been trained to use it properly in the situation you describe, and your parents believe you have the maturity to respect it.
