Category:General Sikhism

sat sri akal ji.i wanted to ask whether it is ok for women to do paath including reading Gri Guru Granth Sahib Ji when she has her priod. most of the ladies in my life think it is a sin but for me i think a womens period is part of her biology. it is how Waheguru ji created her to carry out her role as a mother. Thus i see no harm in it but my family would not allow me to do parkash or smavti at home when i have my period. They say it is unclean

sometimes i just lie n say that i am not having my period and continue to do sewa but that makes me a liar.
Am i right or wrong?

thank u for all the help that u are giving to all sikhs.

My dear, there is NO sin in reading from the Guru, doing Prakash, Sukhasan during your mentruation. I have never heard of this and I would wonder about a life where Guru is restricted from women at that time. Some times people have picked up incorrect practices.

Your understanding of is very clear and you can share that with your family.
However, if this is how they have been raised to think, you may not find them receptive.

You should feel very comforted to know that you are welcome to read from SGGS and do seva all the time. As far as lying......that is being to harsh with yourself. Sometimes the only way to behave gracefully is to be silent.
