Wahe guru ji ka khalsa,

Wahe Guru ji ki fateh.

I just wanted to know that are sikhs part of hindus?i know the answer is No because hindus do idol worship and we dont. But as we know that Guru Nanak dev ji the founder of sikhism, but he was from hindu background.so when a hindu says this what should a sikh reply to them.
plz reply soon.
thank you.
Sat sri akal jee.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. Guru Nanak rejected the practices of the Hindu religion, including the tying of the sacred thread, and of course, the worship of idols and many different gods. He rejected the caste system, and the practice of Sati (widows throwing themselves on the funeral pyre of their husbands' corpse). He taught a different way of life, his followers were "sishyas" or Sikhs, and thus a new, different religion was born. If you would read the history of the Sikh religion, (even the short version on the SikhNet website -- please do some research!) I think you would be amply prepared to reply to anyone who thinks we are part of any Hindu religion. Guru Nanak was a universal teacher who inspired Hindus as well as Muslims to adopt this new way of life. SP
