SSA,

I have a questions about all white sikhs who have changed their names. Why they change their first name to indian name and some are not very common in indian sikh community. why dont new white sikh change their last name, ex michael singh, instead of changing to yogi singh. Do changing complete names make them full sikh. It would be much earsier for their relatives and friends to call them from their old first name than their adopted new first names. I hope i dont offend anybody. i was just wondering about it.

Sat Siri Akaal. We change our names because the whole name is a vibration that serves us on the Sikh path. For example, Akal Sahai Singh means Lion who is with God. Hari Dharm Kaur means princess of God's Truth. This is a whole different energy than Michael Singh or Lydia Kaur, for example Our families get used to it; on occassion, families use the original name but everyone else (work, friends) use the Sikh name. White Sikhs born Sikh don't use anything but a Sikh name. It's not that the name makes one 'fully' Sikh, it's the meaning of the name supports the person to be Who they are Here to Be.
