Summary of Question: | Current Scenario For Sikhs In Usa |
Category: | General Sikhism |

I am a 21 yr old keshdhari sikh from India. I am coming to California in the fall to pursue an MS in a prestigious university there. However, after reading certain news articles and reading certain posts on this forum regarding the amount of harassment and ridicule Sikhs have to face in USA I have become a bit apprehensive. Can some Keshdhari Sikhs living in the US please tell me what the exact situation there is for Sikhs (particularly in Calfornia)? Further, are there certain things I need to be careful about/certain precautions I should take when I come there?
The crux of my question is - will I face a large amount of harassment in the US and will that hamper my chances of getting a job there?
Thanks to all the moderators and people posting replies. This is an excellent forum.

WEll, it depends upon the part of California you are going to. Southern California (Orange County) is quite conservative. Northern California is more liberal and open minded. The LA area in Southern CA is more open and diverse as well. California in general is more liberal and diverse. At least you're not going to Wyoming or Iowa or Mississipi. California is pretty cool.
