I am 21 years old and know how to speak punjabi but find bits hard to read and pronounce. I was wondering whether there was a particular prayer i could read before i started off every day to help me keep focused and out of trouble through out the course of the day and also for god to protect me from evilness. I light an incense stick in my room everyday and because i am not sure what to say during a prayer i repeat the word waheguru over and over again sometimes before i go to sleep. I feel close to god from inside but i want to make this relationship alot sronger.

The foundation of the path of Nanak is meditation on the name of God. Repeating waheguru with focus is an excellent path for building your relationship with God and Guru (both of which live inside of you!)
For the morning prayer, most Sikhs would recommend Japji. There are many gutkas available with transliteration if you are currently incapable of reading Gurmukhi at an appropriate speed.
