Hi

Im 18 years old and hardly know anything about sikhism. I went to india last year and purchased a religious book that exaplains our sikhi past. Unfortunately the book is written for adults and i often get bored reading it (due to the difficult language). Where i live, there isnt a youth society aimed at teaching sikh youths about sikhism. So i have basically no kowledge about our religion. I have also noticed that majority of the sikh youth i know do not know why they have to follow certain rules in sikhism. No one explains them to us! And because of this me a a lot of the sikh youth have fallen into wrong acts.
I was wondering if there is a online Sikh organisation for youths that offers individual attention to personal issues related to Sikhism.

Another thing I wanted to add to this is that kirtan is getting old- I hope this isn’t offensive to anyone, but kirtan often is for the elderly, is it wrong to “jazz it up” a bit so that it effectively grabs the attention of youths?

Sat nam. You should really explore all the links available on the Sikhnet homepage. That's what this site is for. You can also google Sikh youth, you can google Sikh history. http://www.sikhseek.com/Youth/ is a site of links.

As for kirtan, there is no hard and fast rule on the 'sound' of kirtan, other than always keep it respectable and appropriate for a gurdwara setting. Dya Singh from Australian has the equivalent of Sikh R&B and has made a number of recordings. This is something youth in your gurdwara are going to have to work out. Guru ang sang,
