Hello Folks, first of all, I’d just like to say a big thank you to all ye guys at the Sikh youth forum, you’ve answered each question wonderfully, even if some didn’t agree to the answers, we see that a lot nowadays don’t we in the age of kalayuga.

I come from England and im 15, my name is Kamaljeet Singh and I’d like to ask some questions please, and answer these real quick yeah! -

1. How can I strengthen my discipline to meditate and take in Gurbani, even though my logical brain says “it makes sense, so live it” my lazy brain says “oh don’t do it eat some food instead!”
2. Despite my lazyness and crap willpower (when im inspired I can fly and meditate as long as I want, but willpower declines very shortly) Im able to meditate about 2mins at a time and after this time I feel a bit dizzy and at the same time very relaxed as if I was taking drugs! Is this slight dizziness supposed to occur, especially when my eyeballs are directed at the third eye and when I breathe deeply on the sat-nam mantra?
3. I got my mum into spiritiuality and she is easily able to meditate for 10 minutes or more, please can you explain these ocurrances:
Once my mum did meditation for 15 minutes and she saw a purple ball of light coming to and away from her, whats that all about?
Second time my mum did meditation for 8 mins and she says she started vibrating from one side to another- or she thought that. Whats up with that?

Sat Siri AKaal. The dizzyness is not unusual in folks new to meditating. It is because you are oxygenating your blood more than you are used to from the deep breathing. ALSO, if you eat a lot of meat or have imbibed in drugs, tobacco, or alcohol, the residual effects of these will cause dizzyness.
My advice. Start with 2 minutes, daily. Do this a week. Then shift to 3 or 4 minutes daily. Do this a week. Build it up to at least 11 minutes, but longer (31 or 62)is far better. This kind of build up will start to become a HABIT and then you will find your discipline much easier. The mind is a trickster. It will test you and come up with excuses for you to avoid your daily practice. That's why you should just DO it and ignore the excuses your mind makes. This is also why making it a habit at the SAME time of day really helps put it into your routine.

The meditative mind often sees 'things' as you describe. If at any time you or your mum feel deeply fearful of what you 'see', then chant the opening slok of Sukhmani (look it up!) for protection, and if you need, come out of the meditation. Generally, keep vibrating the Naam verbally or mentally and let the Naam clear the experience. You will also see your mind wander during meditation, this is normal, just keep chanting.Otherwise, enjoy the ride and DO NOT attach to meditating to see these kinds of things. The mind has a lot to clear from the subconcious (this only happens through meditation) and so one might experience both wondrous and fearful things. The vibrating is also not to be feared. If you and your mum are serious about this, make sure you live as clean a lifestyle as possible. Guru Nanak also said eat little, sleep little, remember the Naam. Guru ang sang,
