wahe guru jee ka khalsa, wahe guru ji ki fateh

i wanted to ask you is it ok to read sggs and do paat in english if i donot know and understand punjabi,i guess there is no use reciting words that u do not understand,so is it same to read sggs in english?
thanks a lot for good work.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. Yes, it is OK to read the Siri Guru Granth Sahib in English. However, do not think that it is "no use" to recite the Gurmukhi words, even if you do not intellectually understand them. There is an inherent power and blessing in the words the "come from the Guru's mouth" (which is what the word "Gurumukhi means!) so, ideally learn to recite in the original language and read in English to understand the wisdom and guidance.
