Sat Siri akaal. It is not worth the hassle to give up one's siri sahib at airport security because one has forgotten to pack it with checked luggage. If Guru Gobind Singh were alive today, I am certain he would understand people's concern about this and recommend that checking it with baggage is OK.
I have personally accompanied the prior Kesgarh Sahib jethadar to and from the airport and he himself has made sure that his siri sahib is packed in a special case and sent with the checked baggage. I know for a fact that this is typical practice of current Akaal Takht Jethadar as well.
One alternative is to obtain a small 1-2 inch khanda (two-edged) and wear that in one's pocket or on a string around one's neck. It does not have a point (even the 2-inch kirpans do) and it is not sharp, so airport security will probably not take issue with it. They will take issue with any pointed metal object, no matter how small. Frankly, as a dashtar-wearing female, I find it easiest to travel by plane wearing no metal other than my kara. It is not worth the hassle to go 'ping' in airport security and be pulled over for a more thorough search.
