I have talked with some Punjabi Sikh girls about these problems; the answer I got most often was it’s all about getting a bad reputation. The Punjabi Sikh communities are very close knit. When Sikh girls decide to get married they don’t want their future husbands finding the skeletons in their closets. It’s a fantasy in their minds of being in love like they see on Bollywood movies, these girls like to have fun and do all the things before they settle down, other answer I got was they wanted a love marriage not a arranged marriage So they don’t care if he’s Sikh or Muslim etc. they don’t care about any religion, They want the ever lasting love like the stories they see on Bollywood movies where boy meets girl fall in love and live happily ever after. Realty soon hits when things don’t turn out like they hoped and then sometimes it’s too late. Even after things like these keeps happening these girls are still willing to take that chance...
