sat ri akaal

i hope that u can help me with a problem that i am currently having. my name is lata, i am 25 years old and live in southend.

i orginally come from a hindu family but the family still equally go to the Gudwara. over many years through research, i was drawn to the conclusion that i was sikh. since then i have stopped eating meat and recite all my banis.

my family have began to question me now becasue i am the age of marriage. they are trying to make me marry boys in the hindu family, whereas i want to be in a sikh family. i have expalined this to them several sevrl tyms, but the response i get is- u have a hindu name and u cut yr hair so u cant be a sikh. a sikh is only a person who has taken amrit they say.

personally, i feel as thgh i am not ready for the stage of taking amrit. i odnt wnat to take a big step in order to prove smthg to my parnts.

it upsets me dearly that the fact that i ahve a hindu name and cut my hair, makes me not a sikh in my familes eyes. what can u do for them to take me seriously?

thank u

Dear one,
Please write in proper words in the future. The way you are writing shows little respect.

OK, all original Sikhs were something else before becoming Sikh...Guru Nanak was Hindu and so on. Now, in your life you can follow the teachings of Siri Guru Granth Sahib as you are. This is not a problem. And truely, your family sees you as they wish you to be.

Yes, you must prove something in your appearance and actions to yourself and others. Your devotion to the Bani the nitnem, daily practice......do Jap Ji daily and study Siri Guru Granth Sahib. If you wish to be a Sikh, then be one....and be patient with your parents until they undertand you are serious in your love and devotion to Wahe Guru.
Blessings to you,
SKKK
