Summary of Question:Baptised For Life???
Category:Sikh Practices
Date Posted:Monday, 1/08/2001 4:46 PM MST

I'm a baptised sikh...at least I think I am. I got amritshaked when I was really young. Now I'm not sure if I can carry on with it. I don't do anything wrong (smoke, drink, eat meat, etc.), but I haven't been doing my 5 banis for the majority of my life. I'm not sure if I am disgracing the 5k's by wearing them or if i should remove the kirpan and kangha and get baptised again later.

The main problem I have is that my affairs (school, work, etc.) aren't being resolved. I do ardas after ardas but sometimes I fall into a depression when I don't see my current condition improve. Am I wrong to have asked God for so much? I ask everyday, and the hukam's r positive, yet I see no change in myself or in my affairs. Please help me!

Greetings to you in the Name of God the light of every soul and in the Name of Guru the life of every Sikh.

Amrit is a once in a lifetime committment. Unless you commit a kurehit, your amrit will carry you to the end of this life. Sometimes when people take Amrit very young, they may retake it for the inspirational value of applying the committments to their adult life.

There is no problem with your situation. In fact, you have not broken any of your Amrit, but neither have you taken full advantage of the tools of your Amrit. You do not need to go backwards from where you are now by denying yourself the gift of your consciousness, by removing your 5 kaka's. In fact, it is great that you wear your 5 k's.

Guru is simply giving you a challange. You said that you have never really done your nitnem. This is where your answer lies. You need to "up the anti"....that is, to get some movement out of your stagnation you need a boost! So, apply "Jap Ji Sahib" to your life every day. This is called empowering yourself! If you only go to the Guru and beg for help, you have not activated the great power that the Guru gave to you when you gave your head to Him at the "Amrit Sanchar".

You contain the Guru and you activate this power within yourself by doing your 'bani's! When you recite the bani's they have the subtle power of activating your pituitary and pineal glands and open your inner eye of awareness. The daily recitation works on your ten bodies and refines you. You will experience change and excellance in your life when you apply yourself to your daily practice.

So, when are you going to start? Do you really want to remove the "blahs" from your life? You need to just start! Go to http.www.sikhnet.com/s/gurugranthsahib and get a download of the english translation of "Jap Ji Sahib". Recite this every day out loud!!!!!Listen to your sound and hear your words. Do this for 40 days and then add:

Jaap Sahib will give you great strength and tenacity and the ability to face any challange in your life with victory!. Do this with enthusiasm for the sound of the "naad" that Guru Gobind Singh embodies in his bani.

You just need to dig a little deeper into your fountain of consciousness to get what you wish. You and the Guru are partners in this science of excellance called 'Khalsa'. Become brilliant as the diamond as you and the Guru polish your 'lump of coal self'. Your soul longs for this gift that God has given you in this life. So, have it!
