my m8 asked me this question, have any anwsers??

Q. this may be more of a punjabi thing, but does anyone know the significance of putting oil in front of the house before someone comes in. u always see it happening after weddings especially.

It is an ancient custom from Vedic times. The oil is put on the doorsteps so that the bride's family will feel welcome. The oil is put there to lubricate the merger of the two families into one.
